With Grey Magik - Muzan Editions’ own Christopher Olson (Standard Grey) and Kevin Kirwan’s (Garden Magik) first collaboration - we witness the creativity of two artists sharing the same vision. The artists describe their process of collaboration as “raw recordings being processed/re-processed/re-re-processed through an assortment of analogue and digital means”. They combine new sounds not just to complement each other’s sonic output but to push the boundaries of what is expected. For the listener, the tradition of Musique concrète a la Pierre Schaeffer or Luc Ferrari can only serve as a starting point. With every subsequent listen we are taken on new paths through a jungle of distinct sounds: mesmerizing loops, field recordings embedded in elegantly crafted drones, found sounds drifting in the background waiting to come forward and take over.

Grey Magik is a long-distance collaboration between
Standard Grey (Nara, Japan) and Garden Magik (Dublin, Ireland).

Raw recordings were sent back and forth, and then processed/re-processed/re-re-processed through an assortment of analogue and digital means between late 2019 and early 2020.
